Description: Our voices are one of the most valuable things we can share with the world, not only to express ourselves but to evoke a transformation that is deemed necessary for us. The idea of this 50-min workshop is to support and facilitate new perspectives for students about leadership, student activism, civic engagement, and social change. Through open discussion and interactive activities, students will be able to engage with their leadership, organizational, and advocacy skills while developing new ones. The session will focus on the potential of each one of us to be a part of positive social change and engagement at different levels throughout an array of paths and topics. Sometimes, it only takes a small push for someone to pursue those changes they want to see in society and start raising their voices for the causes they believe in. Students are future and present leaders that might not see clearly that change is in their hands, which is why sometimes reflecting upon their and others’ interests, aspirations, skills, and actions can foster a new awareness of their capacities and responsibilities. It just takes an idea, which is then turned into action, which can ultimately bring upon a necessary shift in our current circumstances.

But these questions about ourselves, our values, our identities, and our histories are so important to delve into because they have a direct impact on the kinds of leaders and community members we are. We will use art as a way to explore feelings and ideas that can often feel abstract and as a catalyst for connection. We hope you join us for conversations and lots of creativity.
