Sojo Saturdays

I’m sure you all are aware by now that the “University has extended spring break through March 20. After that time, we will transition to temporary virtual learning from Monday, March 23 through Friday, April 3”.  We are committed to the safety, health, and overall wellbeing of our campus community and after much thought and consideration, we have decided that it would be in the best interest of our students and staff to postpone the SOJO Saturday event, Mothering on the Margins to a later date.

We will do our best to determine another date in the future to host the program.  Once we secure another date, we will reach out to you all and let you know.  If you all have any questions regarding the event or if there is any way that the LEAD Office can be supportive of you during this time, please do not hesitate to email (

Thinking of you all and sending lots of good vibes to you all.
Take care,
Lisa Snyder

Mothering on the Margins is an event for marginalized mothers of color who are Mason students and staff.  We imagine Mothering on the Margins as an opportunity to collectively affirm and support mothers of color who learn and labor in higher education. We recognize that mothers of color, standing at the intersections of racism, classism, and sexism, often feel invisible and unmoored. This event is for those who courageously mother on the margins while maintaining a commitment to a better future. Mothering on the Margins will take place on Saturday, March 21st from 3:00pm-6:00pm in Merten Hall, 1201.

The deadline to RSVP is March 13th.

This event is a collaborative partnership between Women and Gender Studies, the School of Integrative Studies, and the Leadership Education and Development Office.

Prior to Mothering on the Margins, the LEAD Office and Contemporary Student Services is hosting the 2020 Mason Leadership Summit: Innovative Leadership for Adult Learners and Student Parents. If you are interested in participating in the summit, please RSVP at The deadline to RSVP for the Leadership Summit is March 13th.
