Function

The LEAD Student Office Assistant (SOA) will serve as a representative of George Mason University and The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Office (located on the Fairfax Campus). The SOA will conduct business with commitment and special attention to detail and perform duties as a member of the LEAD Team.

  • Must be in good academic and judicial standing

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point person at the front desk (ex: welcoming visitors, answering questions, serving as a resource, etc.)
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed (ex: data entry, answering phones, mailings, etc.)
  • Promote LEAD Office initiatives and programming
  • Assist in marketing and outreach for the LEAD Office (ex: flyer distribution, bulletin boards, information tables, open houses, orientations, etc.)
  • Assist Office Manager in the overall management and maintenance of the office
  • Work collaboratively and effective with other Student Office Assistants and Leadership Consultants
  • Maintain a healthy, ongoing, professional relationship and communication with your supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned by the Office Manager, Director, and Associate Director

Communication

  • Maintain an open line of communication with your fellow SOAs, Leadership Consultants, Supervisor, and LEAD Staff members
  • Update others regularly
  • Correspond in a timely manner
  • Seek out, listen to, and be open to other’s ideas
  • Be available and approachable

Ethical Behavior

  • Lead by example and conduct self in an ethical manner (ex: compassionate, fair/just, honest, respectful, responsible)
  • Model appropriate and ethical behavior
  • Instill trust
  • Be honest in dealings with professional staff, peers, and organizations
  • Return all phone calls, emails, and inquiries that require a response
  • Deal with issues directly and follow appropriate channels
  • Examine the consequences your actions, universal standards to follow and how to treat others as you would like others to treat you would like others to treat you

Terms of Employment

  • Maintain good standing with the university and at least a 2.0 GPA throughout your term
  • Commit to 10 office hours a week (12 hours per week maximum)
  • Seek to develop as a leader and learn new things
  • Be able to work in person on Fairfax Campus
  • Have fun
  • Length of Contract: August 2021 – May 2022 (Students MUST commit to full 2021-2022 Academic Year)
  • Must be available for LEAD Staff Retreats (1 in Fall 2021, 1 in Spring 2022 – August 17-18, 2021)
  • Compensation will be a $11.00 per hour
